Chef Danny Boome
We were pleased to recently sit down and chat with British Chef, Danny Boome of foodnetwork' s "Rescue Chef " fame.
We spoke about his growing up in what is known as "the Fens" in Cambridgeshire, England and his experiences and memories of his grandmother and how growing up with fresh farm to table ingredients shaped his vision of food. His interview offered a unique perspective and insight on growing up in England and the why's and misconceptions about British cuisine.
Danny certainly took a circuitous route to food, but once in he was hooked. At sixteen, he was destined for a carreer as a professional hockey player, but fate had other ideas. Boome continues to be involved in the international hockey community, as a contributor to Powerplay magazine, the UK’s number one ice hockey publication. For the 2009-2010 NHL season, he will be covering weekly news events and games on 5+ Game, his new article/blog. He even did a stint as a model.
Boome started his culinary training in 1999 as a cook in Switzerland doubling up as an au pair for a local family. He later moved to Canada and trained at the acclaimed West Wind Inn. To finalize his training, Boome attended the Grange Cookery School in England. His first post as a young chef was at the fashionable Asia de Cuba restaurant in St. Martin's Lane London Hotel, and his passion for fusion cookery was ignited.
With years of training and experience under his belt, Boome then packed his bags to travel throughout mainland Europe and North America. While exploring his culinary passions and curiosity for the origins of food and drink, Boome’s desire to inspire us everyday cooks, was born.
Boome launched his television career in 2004 on UKTV Food’s co-production Wild and Fresh where he travelled across Canada seeking out the best home-grown delights each province had to offer. He would then return his host’s hospitality by taking inspiration from traditional dishes and cooking up a delicious meal with a contemporary twist! In 2005, Boome explored his childhood holiday destination at the North Norfolk coastline in the UKTV Food and Anglia Television production of Norfolk’s Coastal Kitchen, Danny by the Sea. This show followed Boome as he retraced his steps around this memorable location where his passion for food and fresh produce began. With the success of Norfolk’s Coastal Kitchen, Boome launched a series in January 2006 called Coastal Kitchen continuing his quest to uncover fresh ingredients and unique recipes, which still runs on Anglia Television and Discovery Channel. In 2006 and 2007, Boome was a regional host and judge on UKTV Food’s program Local Food Heroes which spotlighted local purveyors from across England. Boome further increased his profile with a regular spot on Summer This Morning on ITV and has also gained credits on Children’s BBC, UKTV Sport and UKTV Good Food Live. Additionally he has appeared at the Autumn Ideal Home Show and has been featured in high-profile advertisements. In 2008, Boome became the “Rescue Chef” and was international spokesman for Samsung refrigerators. In 2009, he launched his “Home Cooking Revolution” tour. In addition to a stream of future television projects, Boome is currently working to develop a 2010 lecture tour across America, a selection of soon to be published books, and the expansion of Crash Bang Boome Productions. Inspired by his desire to educate on healthy eating and share practical, no-fuss recipes and techniques, Crash Bang Boome Productions now offers several courses for students, parents, teachers, and home chefs alike. If you are interested in finding out more about how to bring Crash Bang Boome to your school or school system, please go to the contact page and send us an email. It is our pleasure to bring you....
