Announce
"Gourmet Girl Magazine Chef's Challenge"
"PASS THE PLATE" TO SUPPORT COOK FOR THE CURE®
AND THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER
We at Gourmet Girl Magazine are challenging Southwest Florida Chefs to get involved. The premise of this challenge is for local area chefs to purchase the plate, register it online at CookfortheCure.com/PassthePlate, make a preperation then pass that plate to someone else. Every time the plate is passed and registered, KitchenAid will donate $5 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, a leader in the global movement to end breast cancer forever. Plates are available for purchase at CookfortheCure.com and Villeroy & Boch retail stores for $24.99.
To help get the program started, KitchenAid has provided more than one hundred top chefs from around the country with their own numbered plates. Those who have registered and passed along plates with their culinary creations include celebrity chefs Jacques Pepin and Ming Tsai.
On Monday, October 27th, 2008 at the ACF Caxambas Chapter Vendor Showcase 2008 Event in Naples Florida, Gourmet Girl Magazine, along with Villeroy & Boch raffled off plates to chefs attending the event, raising funds for the local chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
The Old Collier Golf Club's Executive Chef, Chris Jones' plate and creation.
To help get the program started here in Southwest Florida, Gourmet Guy's Chefs Brian Roland, Paw Mikkelson & Ingo Wullaert, along with Naples Sailing and Yacht Club Executive Chef and President of the Caxambas Chapter of the American Culinary Federation, Ralph Feraco, Chris Jones, Executive Chef of The Old Collier Golf Club, Angelina's Ristorante Executive Chef Nick Costanzo and Pazzo's Executive Chef Dominick Rizzo have joined forces to support the KitchenAids 'Cook for The Cure®' initiative. Gourmet Girl Magazine has provided all these chefs with a plate to start the campaign here in Southwest Florida. Chef Feraco, who recently won Silver at the 2008 IKA Culinary Olympics in Germany passed his plate while there.
Elaine & Chef Brian passed this plate to Amy Sedlacek on Fox 4 Rising.
About Cook for the Cure®.
Cook for the Cure®, Presented by KitchenAid, was created in 2001 to give those with a passion for cooking a way to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the fight against breast cancer. To date, it has raised more than $6 million through donation-with-purchase programs, special fundraising events, auctions, grassroots initiatives, and involvement from culinary notables such as Emeril Lagasse, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Jacques Pepin and Mary Sue Milliken.
In order to widen participation in Cook for the Cure®, KitchenAid, in cooperation with Villeroy & Boch, is introdued a new ceramic serving plate that reads "Cook for your friends. Cook for your family. Cook for the Cure." The plate, marked by a pink ribbon, is meant to be passed to friends and family along with a culinary specialty prepared by the giver. Once the plate is passed, the recipient is then asked to do the same. Instructions for participating are on the back of each plate, as well as on CookfortheCure.com/PassthePlate.
When participants log on to CookfortheCure.com/PassthePlate and enter the number stamped on the back of the plate they will be able to monitor their plate’s travels, share recipes and stories about passing their plate, and read about the participation of select celebrity chefs.
About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested more than $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. For more information about Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, breast health or breast cancer, visit www.komen.org or call 1-877 GO KOMEN.
During 2008, KitchenAid is proud to donate a minimum of $1,000,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in conjunction with its pink product collection. Consumers must register each pink product purchased at CookfortheCure.com to generate a donation.

M Waterfront Grille V.I.P. Opening
The M Waterfront Grille held its V. I. P. Grand Opening in October and Gourmet Girl Magazine was on hand to witness the festivities. This restaurant is the new, upscale version of the Naples staple, Maxwells on the Bay. We applaud owners Chris and Peter Sereno on the fantastic refurbish. While change is always difficult, with regulars sometimes balking at losing what's familiar, the addition of Chef Brian Roland, and the move to more modern cuisine and presentation was long overdue and is a move that will place M at the top of the local restaurant list within no time. The key is to see if they will stay the course. We believe this is a step in the right direction. Too often, restaurants allow customers to dictate what is presented and, while familiar may be comfortable, it is not always good.
What makes a restaurant a destination for us here at Gourmet Girl Magazine is the fact that it seperates itself by being unique. It looks as if M, under the direction of Chef Roland, is doing just that. Safe is never the answer, as most play it that way and become 'just another place to eat.'
We wish the owners, chef and staff much success and offer here for you, a pictoral taste of what is sure to become a 'place to be' in Naples.
